Tamron 60MM F2 1:1 DI II lens. Available for a variety of mounts including Canon, Nikon, and Sony. MSRP is around $500 New, and can be found around $300 on the used market. The Tamron 60MM lens we tested was for Canon. Lens was tested on a Canon EOS 5D MARK II body but indoors and outdoors.
Tamron touts this lens as the first 2.0 Macro for APS-C sensors. This means that the front element doesn’t move. The lens maintains its length at any focusing distance, even at the very minimum. Filters stay in the mounted position. It uses a 55mm filter thread, which is very common and useful. I have many SFX filters in this thread that I can use for this lens. The hood is (not shown in picture) is sturdy quality, and doesn’t have the annoying slips common on other lens hoods. Particularly useful outdoors or indoors with lots of light to control glare.
Bokeh fans rejoice. Very impressed with the out of focus highlights of this lens. If you’re not familiar with bokeh, you know when you see it. Crisp generally front ground image with beautiful blur on the sides of the subject. The Tamron 60mm lens did a great job with the background blur. It’s creamy and soft with no hard edges to distract.
The Autofocus on this lens is decent. It’s generally accurate and quick. It does makes a bit of noise, but it’s not to loud or distracting. It will at times not find focus and move in and out, slowing performance. The full-time manual-focusing override is easy to work with for manual situations. It’s easy to use and has a fine touch so if you’re looking for very gradual manual options, this lens is a good choice.
Overall would give the Tamron 60mm Lens a 4/5 star review
